National Stress Awareness Month: The Secrets of Shedding Stress

May Your April Be Zen 😌🧘‍♀️

“I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.” — Mark Twain

April is National Stress Awareness Month, started in 1992. Like most people, you’re probably past awareness, and just want stress-free ways to manage it, right? 😁

Before we review stress-management, it helps to distinguish between stress, vs anxiety. Stress is our response to typically external events, like an argument, or needing to perform at our best; anxiety is an internal, persistent feeling. Both can affect our minds and bodies.

Lifestyle Medicine, and Plants, to the Rescue!

“When you’re hungry, eat. When you’re tired, sleep. Fools will laugh, but the wise shall understand.” — Zen proverb

Fortunately, the 6 evidence-based pillars of lifestyle medicine (a board-certified medical specialization) can handily tackle stress and anxiety:

  1. a whole food plant-based diet 🥬
  2. exercise 🏃‍♂️
  3. good sleep 💤
  4. stress management 🧘‍♀️
  5. positive social connections 👯‍♀️
  6. avoiding risky substances 🚫 (alcohol, smoking, processed sugar/foods)

What’s even better? All 6 healthy habits reinforce one another! 🤩

Healthy eating is number 1 because it’s the foundation: The better you eat, the better you exercise; the better you sleep; the better your mood is; and the less taste and room you have for junk food. It’s a total win! ✅

A whole food plant-based lifestyle has frequently been shown to reduce tension, depression, anger, and fatigue, from the short-term to much longer time periods.

⚡️ Indeed, participants in a 22-week study reported increased energy, better sleep, enhanced physical functioning, and even improved work productivity after embracing a whole food plant-based diet. 🥦🍎🥕 Click the video below to learn more: 👇

“In one week of eating LeafSide meals, I lost 9 pounds, was pain-free, had more energy and mental clarity.
In fact, it was so amazing that I’ve decided that I’m going to make their meals a cornerstone of my healthy, new, plant-based diet lifestyle.
I drive over the road and so I don’t have the ability to really cook and certainly there are not a lot of healthy options for places to stop out on the road.
With these meals, all I have to do is heat the water up in my little 12 Volt portable kettle and pour the hot water into the bowl with the meal. Presto! I have a healthy, plant-based, organic meal!
Love, love, love LeafSide!!! 💖” — Kelley S.
